The Big Transformation

We are all constantly changing. Some of us are completely different from who we are last year. Some of us are just slightly different from who we were last year. But change is inevitable. Things happen in our life (big and small) that shift who we are as a person, that shifts our ideas, our likes and dislikes, and our perspective (how we see the world).

I remember there was a time in my early 20’s when I started to make big positive changes in my life and I had friends that would say, “you’re different” or “that’s not how you used to be” or “that’s not even you” and the one I hated the most, “remember when you used to”

I had an understanding at a young age that we’er all supposed to change. Like Jay-Z said, '“I didn’t work this hard to stay the same”, because really, when you want to move up to new levels in life, you have to level yourself up. Your moves, your ideas, your mindset.

Today, I want to talk about changing with intention. Most of us are changing with the world, just as the trees lose their leaves in the fall, we mold and change with the seasons. But it’s a natural transformation and it can be easy or hard. Think of a breakup (you break up with the love of your life or the love of your life cheats on you) and it’s heartbreaking and it causes turmoil and suffering in your life and it forces you to change. You couldn’t control that, I’m sure if you could, you wouldn’t choose to have your partner cheat on you. But now you’re forced to change, and it’s all apart of life’s natural way to get us to change. To live and learn and grow stronger.

But what if you had an idea to do something to do something or be something. And you were able to visualize all of the obstacles that are blocking you. And you got to decide what moves to make next. What if you influenced change instead of waiting for the world to influence change upon you?

Earlier this year, I came home one day and was like “I’m going to get rid of everything that isn’t me” and started donating boxes full of clothes and furniture. Right after that, I made the decision to quit my job because I wasn’t happy there anymore. And then I made the decision to shave off all my hair, because I hated the label of always being ‘the girl with the pretty long hair”. Then I made the decision to only eat what grows from the earth, because I gained 20 pounds in less than a year from eating junk and I didn’t feel good. Then, I moved from Northern California to Southern California, because I wanted to be near the beaches and relax in the sun.

I was no longer wake up and scroll through my phone for hours and then fall back to sleep, because I saw what that was doing to my mind (how it had control over my attention), so I deleted all of my social media apps and started a new habit of meditating first thing in the morning to cleanse my mind (instead of feeing it junk). I made so many small changes in my life (especially in my morning routine) that became habitual that I had no room for unintentional actions.

And there’s no way that I can be 100% in control of my life, but let’s finish this year off with living with intention! Set out goals for yourself and be awake and alert about how your actions either get you closer to that thing you want or further from it. The book “The Untethered Soul” by Michael A. Singer has this great analogy for how people live their lives in TV mode. So let’s imagine you’re having a rough day after work and you decide to take a seat on the couch and get lost in a TV show until you fall asleep. You’re basically hypnotized by the images you see. You have no real thought process during this time, the TV show controls how you feel and what you think in that moment. People are living their lives like this! Stuck and hypnotized by everyday life. But you don’t have to be, you can be awake and alert and conscious of the world. And live your life with intention. The power of your mind to notice this is incredible. Do you feel like you’re on autopilot or living a robotic life? Well, robots do what they’re programmed to do! You are a human being with options and the willpower to change your life.

If you’re living in robotic mode or you feel programmed or like life is passing you by and you’re not doing what you really wanted to do, be intentional about your life. Write out your goals on a piece of paper and read it back to yourself. And then visualize what it’s going to take to get there and be intentional with your time moving forward. Don’t be programmed, think for yourself. Live for yourself. Be intentional. Believe in yourself. You got this.

With love,
The girls that’s getting unstuck
